2017 Environmental Organizations in Chontales adopt the Environmental Ten Commandments on Water and Life
In November 2017, environmental defense organizations in the Department of Chontales adopted the "Environmental Ten Commandments on Water and Life", which set out actions for protecting natural resources, particularly in the context of climate change.
The commandments are:
You will not destroy the forest, and you will work to re-establish it.
You will promote conservation actions and appropriate productive practices.
You will help to re-establish surface and underground water sources.
You will make effective your right to water for human consumption and food security.
You will demand sustainable human development, and respect for the rights of native peoples.
You will demand responsibility in the development of cities and settlements.
You will demand a public and private education that includes responsible environmental practices.
You will organize to resist the effects of climate change.
You will demand that the State comply with the laws that protect natural resources and our environment.
You will contribute to the construction of a healthy environment, and the sustainable management of our natural resources.
