2017 Protestors detain Government Airplane and Block access to Marlin Mine

Between June and July 2017, a group of 10 residents from San Miguel Ixtahuacán detained a small government airplane parked on a landing strip owned by the Marlin Mine project. The plane was held in support of community demands that the company be held accountable for environmental damage and damage to local houses caused by its mining activities. Approximately 100 protestors from 10 communities also blocked access to the mine site.
