2019 Mam indigenous authorities call on congressional commission to ensure compliance with the guarantees for potable water mandated by the IACHR in 2011

In April 2019, Mam communities from Sipacapa municipality met with the president of the congressional commission of transparency and probity to complain that precautionary measures issued by the IACHR in 2011 to guarantee access to drinking water had not been implemented. Members of the Sipacapa communities affected argued that only two water access projects had been developed by the Instituto de Fomento Municipal (INFOM) which was charging community members for their use in contravention of the IACHR measures.  According to the president of the Presidential Commission for coordination human rights policy (COPREDEH), to comply with the measures agreed with the IACHR, INFOM should have constructed 11 portable water access projects for the communities, seven of which should be run at the cost of Montana Exploradora.
