La Libertad is a gold mine purchased by Canadian corporation, Calibre Mining, from B2Gold in 2019. It is in production at the different sites of the mining complex which is spread over 10,000 ha. in and around the community of Santo Domingo. The mining company is exploring various other locations within the concession to extend exploitation. It is 110 km east of Managua. La Libertad Mine has a long history of exploration and exploitation of mining concessions, dating back to 1862, along with a history of small scale and artisanal production. In 2011, Hochschild Mining obtained two contiguous mining concessions, Reducción Norte Corazón de Tinieblas and Corazón de Tinieblas, in the municipalities of Malinaltepec, Zapotitlán de las Tablas, Tlacoapa and San Luis Acatlán in Guerrero state, Mexico. Exploration and exploitation of the mine was prevented by community legal challenges. These led Hochschild Mining to renounce the concessions in 2015 and in 2019 the federal mining authorities cancelled the two mine concessions completely. Read More

In April 2017, following the enactment of the Law on the Prohibition of Metallic Mining, OceanaGold (through its subsidiary, Minerales Torogoz) announced that it would exit the country. As part of Goldcorp Inc.'s sale of another Guatemalan project, Cerro Blanco, to Bluestone Resources Inc., Goldcorp granted Bluestone a right of first refusal to certain assets and equipment belonging to the Marlin Mine project.
