2005 Mesa Nacional Frente a la Minería Metálica is formed

In September 2005, thirteen local and national organizations launched the National Roundtable Against Metallic Mining in El Salvador (Mesa Nacional). Mesa Nacional has worked to develop and advance strategic policies to eradicate metallic mining in El Salvador, and has overtime expanded its focus to include water rights and concerns about water scarcity and contamination across the country. In particular, the group includes local grassroots groups, research-oriented and religious organizations, and local, national and also international NGOs (Spalding, 2014).
