2013-2017 Humboldt Centre tests water in Santo Domingo to research industrial mining
In 2013, the Humboldt Centre began to conduct water quality tests at five points in and around Santo Domingo. The test results were submitted to the municipality during open assemblies, in which representatives of the government criticised the Humboldt Cente and the tests. The Centre continued with its research, conducting comparative tests in 2015 and 2017, challenging claims by the company and government that Santo Domingo community water supplies were at toxic levels before the mining operation, and evidencing impacts on watercourses of increased levels of heavy metals.
