2015- Municipal Committee for the Defence of Common and Public Goods (CMDBCP) is formed

Since 2015 members of the communities in and around Tocoa have organised themselves into the Municipal Committee for the Defence of Common and Public Goods (Comité Municipal de Defensa de los Bienes Comunes y Públicos, CMDBCP). The Committee is a network of community organizations that originally came together to oppose moves to privatise access to water. However, in 2015 as rumours that mining concessions had been granted in the national park, the committee concluded that the most immediate threat to the water supply of Tocoa communities was the impact of the two mines and access roads, and later, the large iron ore pellet processing plant.
