2015 Protest at International Mining Congress in Honduras

In 2015, communities affected by mining protested at an event hosted by President Juan Orlando Hernández, described as the “First International Mining Congress in Honduras”. "The Congress invited international and Honduran business people and politicians to mingle with mining technicians and academics involved in the industry." The San Martín mining project and the experiences of residents in Siria Valley served as common reference points for those protesting an "open-door mining policy".
