2017 Creation of the National Movement against Industrial Mining

In June 2017, a group of community organizations and social movements, including the Save Santo Domingo Environmental Movement (MASSD), announced the creation of the National Environmental Movement against Metallic Mining (MONAFMI). Its purpose is to defend their territories against the socio-environmental and economic impacts of industrial mining. The movement activities include promoting access to technical information on the impacts of industrial mining and participation of local populations in consultations to exercise forms of social accountability over mining projects.
