2018 Protest against mining in Chontales in remembrance of previous repression

In February 2018, more than 100 individuals protested against mining in Chontales, emphasizing that industrial mining threatens natural resources, especially water sources in Santo Domingo. The march was also in remembrance of the five-year anniversary of the repression and month-long imprisonment of artisanal miners and other opponents to La Libertad mine by anti-riot police officers during a blockade preventing B2Gold mining equipment entering the area.
