2020 Berta Cáceres and Guapinol detainees shortlisted for EU Sakharov Human Rights Prize

A group of European Union MEPs nominated Berta Cáceres and the detained Guapinol defenders for the EU's annual human rights award, the Sakharov Human Rights Prize. The Honduran nominees were initially shortlisted in recognition of the grave threats facing Honduran environmental defenders. However, the Belarusian opposition movement ultimately won the prize in October 2020.
